Most couples I know - including me and beard - has at least some effort to finish with a level playing bachelorette party or symmetrical. That could mean six bridesmaids and groomsmen six or, less commonly, six bridesmaids and four groomsmen (or groomsmaids and the maid of honor) to be divided equally between the "hand of the bride" and "groom's side of the altar. Although less often" find a mix of cocktail dress gentlemen and ladies arranged on both sides of the happy couple, without an established order between men and women, but always with the same number of people in both sides.
What can we learn from this? First, I think we can safely assume that the tendency towards balance and symmetry has more to do with wedding photography to do with family or friends. The fact that the bride has ten best friends does not mean that the groom has ten best friends (or siblings or close cousins or coworkers). And then there's the genre - I still watch the matches of same-sex marriage, even now, when the chickens have a lot of friends of gown friends (and vice versa). Second, the "tradition" plays an important role in this, with brides and grooms never considering that there might be a celebration of mixed marriages, unequal, or alternative, because no one suggested they could.
So this is what I suggest. Before you rack your brains to find another friend like you enough to fill half of the wedding party, think about what they are thinking even in terms of the halves. Once you have wrapped your mind around the idea that their wedding photos still can not believe without having the same number of bridesmaids and groomsmen, it's time to start thinking outside the box when the orientation wedding prom dresses attendant. See, the reason for working the symmetry and balance so well is that the bridesmaids and groomsmen (and groomsmaids and bridesmaid) are generally aligned on both sides of the bride and groom.
