The performance wear for Team GB is supplied by long-time sponsor Adidas, who have announced that McCartney would oversee the Olympic and Paralympic performance wear, the village wear and a retail range that the public can purchase.
The opening ceremony garments will be designed by another London Olympic Games sponsor, Next.
McCartney will have until early 2012 to design the athletes’ kit, but she has already worked on a retail range inspired by Team GB.
“As a British fashion designer it is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be creative director of Team GB as the hosting nation of the London 2012 Olympic Games,” said McCartney.
