Refaeli had volunteered once for Project Sunshine, a non-profit organization providing free services and programs for children facing life-threatening illnesses. Refaeli had also spent one day helping animal lovers association, Ahava, which has been caring for hundreds of pets abandoned in the Northern Israel during the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict. In 2007 & 2008 Rafaeli was at the spotlight in Israel due to the fact that she did not draft to the Israeli military. It is against the law not to draft and despite the fact that famous people get benefits in their service, she chose, very awarely, not to join the force. In Israel, Rafaeli is considered by teenagers as a role model, and she also made a very anti-zionist statements throughout the past year. Among groups of families who sacrificed their relatives in the various wars throughout Israel's history, she is considered as one of the most controversial and perhaps most hated famous person who, only by its birthplace, should represent Israel in the world.
