Vietnam’s Traditional Costumes

Vietnam’s traditional costumes are simple and is much related to the Vietnamese culture and traditions. Generally the Vietnamese clothing is very diverse and each ethnic group has its own dressing style. It is amazing to watch the ethnic groups maintaining the versatility of traditional dressing in the modern days also.

Vietnam’s traditional costumes of the mountainous region people are usually trousers and skirts along with indigo vest, having designer motifs of flowers and beasts in them. In the northern uplands and central highlands, women prefer wearing skirts and vests in bright colors. Vietnam’s traditional costumes for men are brown shirts and white trousers along with a simple headgear and plain footwear.

The formal ceremonies call for additional traditional dressing and they wear long gown with slits on both sides and those are usually in black or brown in color. A strict color code was maintained in Vietnam’s traditional costumes, and yellow was considered as the color of the king whereas purple and red were reserved for the high ranking officials. Ordinary people were allowed to wear only black, brown or white clothes.

Nowadays the Vietnam’s traditional costumes have modified a lot and is replaced by modern suits and business shirts and trousers. The festive season and occasions are the perfect time to watch the Vietnamese in their traditional clothes.
