Vietnamese fashion designer Minh Hanh is showcasing her latest collection at this month's Alta Roma Fashion Week in Italy.

Hanh, the director of the Viet Nam Fashion Design Institute (Fadin), said her collection of 30 pieces was inspired by the beauty of young ethnic minority girls in the mountainous areas of northwestern Vietnam.

The designs feature hand-embroidery, tho cam (ethnic fabric) as well as crystal and gemstone decorations on a background of strong colors, such as dark blue, red and black.

The collection took to the catwalk at the Santo Spirito Royal Palace in Rome. The collection was covered by three Italian television channels, RAL, Canale 5 and Italia 1.

Well-known Italian designers such as Balestra, Curiel, Sarli, Bilotta and Miglionico are also showing their new collections at the 14th annual Alta Roma Fashion Week in Rome from January 31 to February 3

Hanh is the first Vietnamese fashion designer to be honored with a "Knight of the Order of Arts and Literature" by the French government.

For Italy's Vietnam Week in 2010, Hanh presented her “Dragon and Butterfly” collection in Rome.
